Over twenty different grape varieties are currently grown in Chile. The most heavily grown are the Pais, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Petite Sirah.
Chile is rapidly gaining a worldwide reputation for their Cabernet Sauvignons, especially now that they are using oak barrels during the fermentation process.
It is also interesting to note that Chile became a world player in wines after some heavy investment in the 1990’s from world-renowned wineries like Robert Mondavi of California and the Rothchilds from France.
