Tomorrow, July 6th, is National Fried Chicken Day!  How is that for a very cool day and a convenient excuse to have some fried chicken?  And what better place to have some fried chicken than at Chef Point Café, home of the “Better-Than-Sex-Fried Chicken”?  This is award-winning fried chicken made the old-fashioned way, juicy and moist on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside with our own perfect seasonings for that great taste you know and love.

We thought we would take a few moments to give you a brief history lesson on fried chicken.  Do you know where it came from?  Well, if you thought it began in your grandma’s kitchen you would be sadly mistaken.

Variants of fried chicken are recorded back to the Middle Ages in Europe.  The Scots loved their fried chicken back then and fried it in fat because it was a much easier process than baking or broiling like the English did at the time.  At about the same time many West African countries fried chicken parts using palm oil and spices.

Fast forward to the immigration of the United States and we have Scottish immigrants bringing their fried chicken traditions with them and then when the slave trade began we also saw the African slaves bring their traditional chicken recipes.  Because many plantations raised hogs, the tradition began of deep-frying chickens in lard from the pigs.

Slaves were allowed to raise chickens on the plantations as a form of easy food, and so fried chicken became a staple on Southern plantations and by extension became known as a traditional Southern food.

In order to qualify as fried, the chicken must either be pan-fried, deep fried or pressure fried and they must be floured or battered and most times the chicken is cut at the joints with bones and skin left intact.

Now that you know all there is to know about fried chicken, don’t you think it’s about time you have yourself fried chicken so good that it is better than sex?  Seriously, that’s what our customers say about Chef Franson’s fried chicken, so you know it must be darn good.

Nothing says summertime like some great fried chicken, either as a sit-down meal or on a picnic.  Come in and order takeout or have a nice meal in our Fort Worth family restaurant.  Either way, plan on celebrating National Fried Chicken Day in style with Chef Point Café.
