Best of Dallas 2010 City of Ate
As a countdown to the Dallas Observer's "Best of Dallas" 2010, City of Ate is serving up 100 of the favorite dishes we crave, savor and hope to scarf down again soon. These dishes are in no particular order. Some are little known, others celebrated. Some are pricey, others can be eaten on the cheap, but all are delicious to the extreme. More of the dish's tasty details are after the jump.No. 29: Cioppino at Chef Point CafeCioppino is a fisherman's soup that that is an amalgam of various Italian seafood stews and soups, but originates from San Francisco using the freshest catch of the day brought in by local sources from the sea. Think bouillabaisse that is sometimes served with a pasta but always served with the requisite toasted sourdough bread.
Chef Point is the venerable Watauga gas station that is known for serving awesome chef-driven cuisine at less-than-premium prices. This version of cioppino includes mussels, scallops, salmon, clams, calamari, shrimp and vegetables in a delicious tomatoey fish broth and finished with a white wine for a perfect balance served steaming hot until the supply runs dry.
