Trivia & Tidbits

Can you think of a famous movie scene that involved grits?

My Cousin Vinny, the Oscar winning film, has a scene where attorney Vincent Gambini questions Sam Tipton on the stand. Tipton testifies that he had begun to prepare breakfast and saw the defendants walk into a nearby store, and as he was sitting down to eat, he saw them walk back out. He testified that his breakfast took less than five minutes to prepare and so there was not enough time for the defendants to have driven away and for two other men in a similiar car to arrive at the store.

Vincent traps Tipton in his lie by pointing out that, Tipton ate grits for breakfast and that takes 20 minutes to prepare, not five. Some think this is a myth but it is true. Quick grits can take five minutes, but as Tipton says, only real grits will do for a true Southerner.
