Did you know that Portuguese wines have been in existence since the days of Ancient Rome? Actually, they were being traded among the Ancient Phoenicians before the Roman Empire, so we are talking about a nation that knows a little bit about wine making.
Portugal is currently 5th in the world in wine exports and they are probably most famous for their Port wines, which are grown in the Douro Valley in Alto Douro region, a special geographic region that has a specific micro-climate and schist rich soil.
